Welcome to Leelanau UnCaged Dance 2024!

We are a community of area-wide performing artists who love to dance!

 

This year we are excited to announce that the Traverse City Dance Project is loaning us its portable stage with a Marley floor specifically designed for outdoor performances! We welcome ethnic dance, modern, ballet, jazz, and hip-hop dancers to apply.

The Dance Committee 

Veronica Wurm
Veronica is the owner of Design Dance Studio owner co-director of Design Dance Company. She holds a BFA from Western Michigan University and has taught and choreographed with students across the country for over 12 years. Her exceptional choreography has earned numerous awards, including the prestigious National Choreography Award from NYCDA. Veronica’s choreography has been featured in studio shows, video shoots and even caught the attention of a Super Bowl commercial, showcasing the power and beauty of dance to a global audience. She loves sharing her fast-paced, musicality-centered choreography with all her students.

Denise Sica
Denise is a native of Detroit where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (visual arts) degree from Wayne State University. She has studied Modern, Ballet, Improvisational Dance & Theater, and Contact Improv. She has performed in and around Traverse City with Black Earth Collaborative Arts, The Curious Dance Collective and NMC Dance Department. She shared her love of dance with children as an instructor of Creative Movement with parents, babies, and children through grant-funded programs at the Leelanau Children’s Center and Parenting Communities.

Lisa Hawkins George
Lisa holds an MFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. In performance she danced original roles in choreography by David Gordon and Ohad Naharin and danced for Mark Morris. Among awards and support during her career as a solo performer, teacher and choreographer including an individual artist grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Louisiana State Governor’s Arts Award for her Arts in Education program, and several Southwest Regional Ballet Association adjudicated choreography selections.

Karen Cross
Karen graduated from Detroit’s Cass Technical High School majoring in performing arts and earned her acting degree from Wayne State University. She studied with the Detroit Ballet Society under the direction of Louis and Lorna Ravanal, (American Ballet Theatre). She continued her study of Jazz and Modern at Giordano Dance Chicago and studied Modern Dance Pedagogy at the Nikolais/Louis Centre in New York City. Karen taught ballet, modern, jazz and tap to children and adults for 25 years. She has performed in, choreographed, and directed numerous musical theatre productions for both community and regional theatre.
